How Many Chairs?

The kindergarten friends had to figure out how many chairs there are in our classroom. They had to keep track of the number of chairs and make a clear representation of their work. They were thrilled to walk around with clipboards, make tally marks to represent chairs, and count the total number. They discovered there are 27 chairs in the classroom. 

Organisms

The children are learning about different living things and how they grow and change. This week they planted bean seeds and wrote books about how to care for animals. We will be visiting the Davis Farm on Wednesday, June 3rd. Please notice the permission slip in the daily folder today.  This will be a fun way to end this unit!

Poetry Writing

Kindergarten friends are busy writing poems during Writer's Workshop. They are using their five senses to create images. Today we wrote a class poem together about spring. 

Spring

Fresh cut grass

Dandelions

Yummy blueberries

Birds chirping

Crumbling leaves to rake

Dogs rolling in the grass

Counting to 100

Kindergarten kids like to count with a partner. They use the apple pointer as a microphone and take turns saying each number until they get to 100. They are all working hard to accurately cross decades. They use a 100 chart as a visual.

Kindergarten friends write to make the world cleaner and greener. They look for problems and think about fix it ideas to solve them. This is our photo story about how we can all make the world a better place.

Taiko Drumming!

The children enjoyed the first day of the Artist-in Residency with Taiko Drummer, Stuart Paton. They learned different ways to make sounds by hitting the sticks in different places on the drums. The children are so excited to learn Taiko drumming!

Write in Ways that Make a Difference!

The kindergarten friends are writing ways to make the Earth cleaner and greener. They are writing letters, signs, petitions, books, and songs to convince others to make the whole world a better place. They are learning how to be really convincing by telling what they think is a problem, giving lots of reasons, including a fix it idea, and showing they really care about the topic. The kindergarten friends are very excited to make a difference!
