Messages from Home
First and third grade reading buddies got together yesterday to write postcards to members of the Vermont Air National Guard currently deployed. They wrote messages about what they are doing in school and drew Vermont scenes on the front. Thank you to Paula and all the other parents who helped organize a care package for our soldiers. This was a very special project for our children. They send their love from Vermont!

Measuring
First graders are learning how to measure objects accurately and carefully. They practiced measuring the length and width of ramps using inch tiles. They worked on putting units in a straight line without any gaps or overlaps. They will be setting up experiments and measuring how far objects move next week.

Our Busy Friday
First graders enjoyed Wacky Hair Day today!

They learned about the life and dream of Martin Luther King and listened to part of his "I Have a Dream" speech. They wrote about their dreams and how they can make the world a better place.

The first graders also enjoyed some new explore materials that arrived this week. I was able to buy a set of Marble Works and 4D Magnetic Building Blocks using gift cards given by some families. Thank you for your generosity!

Writing Collections
First graders are having a great time sharing some of their favorite collections. They are deciding on which piece is the very best to give it a first place award. They are sharing lots of reasons why that piece is the best one from the collection.

Word Detectives
First graders don't let vowels trip them up. They notice when vowels are side by side, think about how they might sound using their vowel teams chart, and try out the word. First graders are word detectives!

Underhill/Jericho Community Buildings
The first and second graders created town buildings with Mrs. Aucter over the past few weeks. They just finished their buildings today and they look amazing! They are on display above their cubbies but will go home soon. Thank you Mrs. Aucter for helping the children with this community project!
