Happy Holidays!
We had a fun day before starting our holiday vacation. The first graders enjoyed a holiday concert at BRMS this morning. They made a fun craft, read new books in the classroom, played with new games and materials, and enjoyed the craft and cocoa afternoon. Thank you UID PTO for organizing the afternoon party. We had a great day!

Hour of Code
The first graders learned about coding this week. Mr. Wells explained how important it is to give the right directions so the computer does what you want. The first graders practiced solving puzzles on code.org. Thank you Mr. Wells for helping the first graders learn all about code!

Good Luck Mrs. Poor!
We had to say goodbye to our student teacher, Mrs. Poor. She has been a wonderful part of our classroom community this fall. She will be heading to another school for the second part of the year. We appreciate everything she has done for our first graders and wish her the very best!

Our Week
The first graders have been busy reading, writing, thinking about numbers, doing digital projects and making crafts this week! Mrs. Poor shared the digital farm book they created in November. Mr. Baron started working with groups to create digital slides for our community map project. First graders earned their badges for their hard work being word detectives. They fixed up their teaching books to publish during writing workshop. They also made more crafts to sell next week. It's been a busy but fun week in first grade!

UID Craft Fair
The first graders are busy making crafts to sell at our annual Craft Fair on Tuesday, December 12th. This year we are making different ornaments and necklaces. We hope you can join us when we sell these items to raise money for a family in need.

Reading Buddies
The first graders enjoyed making festive turkeys with the third graders. The older students did such a nice job helping their younger friends follow the steps to make the "hands and feet turkey". After making the turkeys, they helped the first graders practice reading their just right books. Later in the week they got together again to share their published narratives. They read their stories and gave compliments. Then they enjoyed some cider and cookies to celebrate their hard work during Writing Workshop. We will get together with our third grade reading buddies a lot during the year.
