Garden Project
Every year UID classes work with community volunteers, Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Kargman, to plant flowers and vegetables for the garden at the Deborah Rawson Library. The children help plant the seeds and then water/care for the plants until they are ready to be transplanted in the ground in June. Not only do they learn about how plants grow, they also learn about the importance of helping others in the community. When the vegetables are ready to be harvested, they are brought to the Food Shelf. The first graders planted cucumber seeds this week. They are eager to watch the plants grow and care for them!

Busy Week!
The first graders started the week reading with some MMU students for their day of service. They played games with UID students during recess too. Later in the week first graders investigated how burdock seeds and velcro are similar. They practiced counting ten more or ten less from any number on the 100 chart. They practiced writing and reading series books. They also made something special to bring home to all the wonderful mothers this weekend!

Race to the Top: How Many Tens?
First graders learned a new game this week to practice place value strategies. They added a multiple of ten to a single digit number and figured out the total. Then they used cubes to build it to show tens and ones. They shared how many groups of ten were in different numbers. They recorded numbers in a column that showed the number of tens.

The first and third graders helped clean up the playground and woods today! They were thrilled to make their playground greener and cleaner. Many students are hoping to participate in Green Up Day this Saturday. There are bags available at Jacobs Family Market, Underhill Town Hall and Wells Corner Market.

The first and third graders had a fun time making bunny puppets today. They were very creative and made so many different ones. We appreciate Mrs. Bernier's friends helping us with this project.
