Dental Health
On Monday Mrs. McMahon taught the first graders about dental health. They learned how to accurately floss and brush their teeth. They also learned about foods that help our teeth. The first graders took home some papers to read and color about flossing and brushing. Thanks for taking the time to teach us about taking care of our teeth, Mrs. McMahon!

First Grade News
We had a busy week in first grade. We finished our nonfiction reading unit and celebrated by sharing important information we learned. We started a new science unit titled Organisms. The first graders learned that animals have traits and noticed some common features among many organisms (color, size and shape). They practiced spelling and reading words with initial and final blends. They practiced counting forward and backward by ones and tens. We also had a sing along with Buddy.

Garden Project
Susan Adams and Trish Kargman came to talk to the K-3 classes  about the Deborah Rawson Community Garden Project. The children are going to help plant seeds to grow vegetables and flowers for the garden. The harvested vegetables will be given to the food shelf for families in need. The children will plant the seeds and care for them in the growlab until they are ready to be planted in the garden in June. The children are very excited to help with this important project!

Firefighters Visit UID!
Some members of the UJFD visited UID today. Firefighters Corey and Chris shared important safety information. They reminded us to check our detectors this weekend when we turn the clocks ahead. They also reminded us to review our home safety plans. Many first graders had questions about their plans so please go over this at home. The children will take home workbooks today so you can review fire safety.  The children even got a chance to go through a fire truck! Thanks to David's dad for driving it to UID! We appreciate the time and effort the firefighters put in for planning today's meeting.

Eclipse Glasses   We collected over 5,000 eclipse glasses! We are so thankful for our UCS Community!
