Story Walk
The Deborah Rawson Library posted a story walk to go along with the book, School Days by B.G. Hennessy, illustrated by Tracey Campbell Pearson.  The story starts at the library and winds around the field. The last page of the story ends near BRMS.  Our class did the story walk on Wednesday. The children enjoyed looking at the pictures, hearing the story, and spotting the bunny on many pages. This story walk will be up for a little while so be sure to check it out!

Our first few days in kindergarten have been wonderful!  The children are getting to know one another, learning the routines of the classroom and school, and exploring materials.  There is so much to learn at the start of the year!

Each day we begin with a morning meeting.  This is a time when children and adults greet one another and help everyone feel welcome. The children work on many social skills during morning meeting including active listening, participating, and interacting with friends in a positive manner. Morning meeting is a great way to start the day and reminds everyone that our classroom learning community is caring, safe, and respectful.

We will spend the first few weeks building community within the classroom and school.  The children will be reminded of the routines and procedures during the day.  We will work on taking care of ourselves, helping others, and respecting materials.

Sound Project
Due Monday, June 9th

To go along with our sound unit, you will be making your own instrument.

  • Please collect recycled or used materials to make an instrument.
  • Materials may include plastic jugs, cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, paper towel rolls, rubber bands, wood, beans, etc.
  •  Homemade instruments may resemble guitars, drums, tambourines, maracas, chimes, etc
  •  You will be asked to show how your instrument produces sound and how you can change the sound (volume and/or pitch).
  • We will discuss different ways to create instruments at school this week. You can also use the links below for ideas for instruments.  You can also find these links on our classroom blog.

Be creative and have fun.
Students will share instruments with the class and demonstrate how to change the sound of their instruments.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. J
