UID Craft Fair
The first graders are busy making crafts to sell at our annual Craft Fair on Tuesday, December 12th. This year we are making different ornaments and necklaces. We hope you can join us when we sell these items to raise money for a family in need.

Reading Buddies
The first graders enjoyed making festive turkeys with the third graders. The older students did such a nice job helping their younger friends follow the steps to make the "hands and feet turkey". After making the turkeys, they helped the first graders practice reading their just right books. Later in the week they got together again to share their published narratives. They read their stories and gave compliments. Then they enjoyed some cider and cookies to celebrate their hard work during Writing Workshop. We will get together with our third grade reading buddies a lot during the year.

Our Week in First Grade
The first graders started writing how-to teaching books this week. They are working on using order words and writing clear steps for others to follow.

They brainstormed all the partners to 10 which are the 2 numbers that make a total of ten when added together (6+4, 7+3). The goal is for first graders to be fluent with all of these combinations by the end of the year. We practiced counting forward and backward starting at different numbers. We even practiced counting by tens off the decade.

We reviewed how important farms are in our community and discussed farmers markets. We also made turkey crafts with our 3rd grade reading buddies at the end of the week.
